Deck and platform

Rub rails

Steel pipe rails along the sides of the scale that help guide trucks on and protect the scale, site equipment and people. They are 3.5 in. OD A36 pipe in high-visibility yellow, with tear-away gussets and PVC end caps. Single rail sits at 7 in.; dual rail adds a second pipe at 24 in. for sites with frequent oversized equipment.

Ordered by scale length. Installation depends on model and width: on Falcon scales, single rail is factory installed on new 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, while wider scales, portable vehicle scales and dual rail are field installed. Replacement rails are quoted per scale.

Available on8100 (Factory installed, 25 ft to 80 ft lengths.), Diamondback 8560, Diamondback 8550, Diamondback 8560 PV, Diamondback 8560XD, Falcon 8555 (Factory-installed single pipe rub rails for 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, both sides or one side.), Falcon 8555HD (Factory installed on 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, both sides or one side; not factory installed at 12 ft.), Falcon 8565 (Factory installed on 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, both sides or one side.), Falcon 8565HD (Factory installed on 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, both sides or one side; not factory installed at 12 ft.), Falcon 8565XD (Factory installed on 10 ft and 11 ft wide scales, both sides or one side; not factory installed at 12 ft or 14 ft.), Falcon 8565 PV (Field installed; not factory installed on portable scales.)

Rub rail cutouts

A designed opening in the rub rail where drivers step out of the vehicle and off the scale onto a walkway or stairs. It removes the tripping hazard a continuous rail would create at that point.

Required when safety stairs are fitted to a scale with rub rails. Standard openings suit single rail; dual rail and other layouts are quoted per application.

Available on8100, Falcon 8555, Falcon 8555HD, Falcon 8565, Falcon 8565HD

Dump-through module

An open area designed into the scale that lets tractor trailers dump product through the scale to an auger. Built in custom sizes.

NTEP-approved dump-through designs are available for truck scales and the railroad track scale. Quoted per application.

Foundation and installation

Cover plates

Removable top-access plates that make a scale pit friendly. They give access to the load cells and controller boxes, which sit between the weighbridge modules.

Order one cover plate per scale section, with the scale. Pit coping is not included. Manholes require a cover plate design. On some models and widths cover plates are the standard design.

Available onFalcon 8555 (One cover plate per section, ordered with the scale.), Falcon 8555HD (One cover plate per section, ordered with the scale.), Falcon 8565 (One cover plate per section, ordered with the scale.), Falcon 8565HD (One cover plate per section, ordered with the scale.), Falcon 8565XD (One cover plate per section, ordered with the scale; the 14 ft width is built with cover plates only.)

Manholes

Access openings built into a cover plate scale at chosen section locations, for entry to the area beneath the scale.

Must be ordered with the scale, which must be a cover plate (pit-friendly) design; include the cover plates on the same order. Adds one week to lead time. Locations not shown on standard layouts, and special scales, are quoted per application.

Available onFalcon 8555, Falcon 8555HD, Falcon 8565, Falcon 8565HD, Falcon 8565XD

Pit coping

Coping for an at-grade (pit) installation, supplied as two lengths, one for each side of the scale, matched to the scale length.

Order by scale length. Approach coping is not included; it is part of the foundation kit.

Available onFalcon 8555, Falcon 8555HD, Falcon 8565, Falcon 8565HD, Falcon 8565XD

Load cell riser plates

Load cell base plates, 2 in., 4 in. or 7 in. high, that raise the whole scale to increase clearance underneath. The extra clearance makes snow and ice easier to clear and the scale easier to service in northern climates. Approach height rises by the plate height.

One riser plate per load cell. Required in states with special clearance requirements. Ordered with a new scale, the certified drawing ships with an addendum showing the corrected approach height. Availability varies by model.

Available onFalcon 8555, Falcon 8555HD, Falcon 8565, Falcon 8565HD, Falcon 8565XD

Bulkheads

Steel end walls at the ends of a portable or temporary scale. They form and gap non-concrete approaches, and on portable vehicle scales the steel ramps seat on them.

Sold in pairs or sets of two, sized by model and width. On some models they are welded on during manufacture and must be specified on the scale order.

Available on8100 (Welded on during manufacture, so they are ordered with the scale.), Falcon 8565 PV (Set of two.)

Steel ramps and approaches

Steel ramps, and steel approaches, for portable vehicle scales. Each ramp seats on the receiver gussets of a bulkhead, bolts to it, and anchors to the foundation with two anchor bolts.

Offered as a 20 ft x 10 ft ramp set (two ramps, two bulkheads) or a ramp and approach set (two 10 ft x 10 ft steel approaches, two ramps, four bulkheads). For portable vehicle scales.

Available onDiamondback 8560 PV, Falcon 8565 PV (Two ramps and two bulkheads.)

Load cells and electronics

Load cell section kits

Most electronic truck scales and the railroad track scale are ordered with one section kit matched to the section count. An Intalogix kit connects the load cells through Smart Sectional Controllers for cell-by-cell diagnostics; an analog kit connects them through junction boxes.

No charge when ordered with the scale, and the order is not complete without one. A scale ordered with Intalogix must be ordered with an Intalogix indicator at the same time. Availability varies by model.

Available onDiamondback 8560 (Chosen with every order.), Diamondback 8550 (Chosen with every order.), Diamondback 8560 PV (Chosen with every order.), Diamondback 8560XD (Chosen with every order.)

Load cell interface cables

Pre-cut and dressed interface cables for the Smart Sectional Controllers on Intalogix scales. They are made from six-conductor multicolor cable with an outer stainless steel sheath.

Included in the price of some models. Offered in 31 ft and 40 ft pre-cut lengths, and as bulk cable by the roll, with or without the stainless steel sheath.

Available onFalcon 8565 PV

Mechanical scale load cell kits

Hardware for installing the single S-type load cell on a mechanical lever scale. The installation kit supplies threaded rod, an eye nut, eye bolts, connecting links, washers and nuts; a separate isolation kit supplies two 1,000 lb load cell isolators with threaded rod and nuts.

For mechanical lever scales; availability varies by model. Whether the 1,000 lb S-type load cell itself is included in the scale price also varies by model.

Available on8100

Site and traffic

Traffic light control boxes

A control box switches the scale's traffic lights. Manual boxes let the operator switch the lights by hand; a dry-contact relay box lets a compatible indicator switch them.

Traffic lights and traffic light kits do not include a control box; order one separately. Each box suits specific light models, and the relay box needs a relay interface card in the indicator.

Available on8140 S.A.M., Diamondback 8560, Diamondback 8550, Diamondback 8560 PV, Diamondback 8560XD

Guide posts

A pair of 30 in. guide posts that bolt to anchor plates embedded in the approach at the end of the scale.

Each kit holds two guide posts and two anchor plates. The anchor plates must be embedded in the approach. Secure the posts with grade 2 bolts or lower only.

Available onDiamondback 8550

Anti-creep devices

Angle-iron devices bolted through the rail web that anchor the approach and weigh rails against creeping, holding the gap between approach rail and weigh rail. A kit covers both rails, dead rail at each end of the scale and live rail, with angles, spacers and A325 hardware.

Not included in the scale price. Kits suit 115 lb rail; other rail sizes are quoted per application. One kit for a one-module scale (12 ft 6 in. or 25 ft); two kits for two-module configurations.

Available on8765 RRT (115 lb rail. One kit for a single or double scale; two kits for combination layouts.)

Rail hardware kits

Hardware that secures the rail and holds gauge. Live rail kits clip the rail to the main girders with Foster #62 clips. Approach and dead span kits embed in the concrete, with 18 in. J-anchors, rail plates with jam nuts for leveling, and Foster #62 clips.

Not included in the scale price. Kits suit 115 lb rail; other sizes are quoted per application. Dead span kits are sized by span length. A single 12.5 ft or 25 ft scale needs 50 ft approaches under the AREMA Scale Handbook.

Available on8765 RRT (115 lb rail; 12 ft 6 in. or 25 ft scale.)

Gap cover kits

Cover steel and anchor hardware that close the gaps along both sides of one scale module in a shallow pit installation. Sized to the module, 12 ft 6 in. or 25 ft.

For shallow pit installations only. One kit per module, so a two-module scale needs two. Can be retrofitted to existing standard 8765 Series scales.

Available on8765 RRT (Shallow pit installations; one kit per module.)

Junction box mounting bracket

A bracket, supplied with anchors, that mounts Smart Sectional Controllers, pit power supplies or analog junction boxes off the scale frame. Each bracket takes two boxes.

Some railroad inspectors do not allow boxes mounted to the scale; this bracket moves them off it.

Available on8765 RRT
