8765 Railroad Track Scale
Ships in assembled modules, with the rails on the main girders
Each 8765 module arrives assembled, so site work is mostly placing and leveling modules on their load cells. The end wall is about 1 ft 6-1/2 in. high, so the scale sets on an above-ground slab or in a shallow pit. Four removable panels per module open to the load cells and electronics. With Intalogix®, diagnostics isolate a fault to a single load cell, so troubleshooting starts at the right one.
Modules are welded steel, 12 ft 6 in. or 25 ft long, pre-drilled for 115 lb/yd rail and rated 85 tons per section. The rails ride directly on the main girders. Hermetically sealed stainless steel rocker column load cells, 110,000 lb each, return to plumb after every loading.
Features
Load cells that realign themselves
The rocker column design returns each load cell to plumb after every loading and unloading.
Faults traced to one cell
With Intalogix, diagnostics isolate a problem to a single load cell, section or module.
Service access at every module
Four removable panels per module open to the load cells and electronics.
Load cells covered from above
Steel plate over the deck between the rails shields the load cells and electronics from the elements.
Layouts for different rail cars
How the modules are combined and placed lets the scale suit rail cars with different wheelbases.
Five-year weighbridge warranty
Repair or replacement for defective material or workmanship, with service twice a year under an authorized Preventive Maintenance Agreement held without lapse.

Questions
Is the 8765 legal for trade?
In the United States, yes: it carries NTEP Certificate of Conformance 19-092. In Canada, no: the 8765 is not approved by Measurement Canada, so it is not approved for commercial use there. They are separate approvals, and an NTEP certificate alone does not clear a scale for trade in Canada.
What rail and approaches does the site need?
Approach rail must match the 115 lb weigh rail. Concrete approaches must be at least 25 ft at each end, or 50 ft when only one 12 ft 6 in. or 25 ft scale is ordered. The AAR calls for at least 75 ft of tangent track at each approach. The gap between approach and weigh rails is held between 1/8 in. and 5/8 in.
What applies if the 8765 weighs cars for railroad revenue?
It must be installed, repaired, tested and maintained to the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Scale Handbook. The scale is designed and built to AAR requirements and to NIST Handbook 44. The AAR handbook is a design, installation and maintenance standard, not a type approval.
