Thurman 8100 portable mechanical truck scale, 3/8 in welded steel tread-plate deck on a steel sub-frame over concrete piers
Mechanical

8100 Truck Scale

Model: 8100

Installed for good, or moved to the next site on its own sub-frame

Moving the 8100 to the next site takes little disassembly, because each module ships as one unit on its own sub-frame. On site, the crew bolts the sub-frames to poured concrete piers, connects the backbone pipes and calibrates. Loaded trucks can stop hard on the deck: the ball bearing suspension takes the shock and returns the deck to alignment on its own. A manhole at every module opens to the levers.

The deck is 3/8 in. welded steel tread plate on structural steel beams, in one to three modules. An all-steel lever system on a 6 in. pipe backbone carries the load to one 1,000 lb S-type load cell. CLC is 70,000 lb, at 50 to 135 tons.

Features

Self-contained modules

Each module ships as one unit on its own sub-frame, so moving the scale takes little disassembly.

Access to the levers at every module

One manhole per module comes standard and opens to the lever system below the deck.

Works with digital indicators

A transverse lever drives the load cell, so the mechanical scale reports to a digital truck scale indicator.

Rub rails fitted at the factory

Optional rub rails are installed during module assembly, so they arrive on the scale.

Five-year weighbridge warranty

Repair or replacement for defective material or workmanship, with service twice a year under an authorized Preventive Maintenance Agreement held without lapse.

Questions

Is the 8100 legal for trade in the US and Canada?

Yes. It carries NTEP Certificate of Conformance 88-037 in the United States and Measurement Canada approval AM-6004 in Canada. They are separate approvals: an NTEP certificate alone does not clear a scale for commercial use in Canada.

Does a portable installation need concrete approaches?

No. Fill material is ramped against optional steel bulkheads to form the approaches. The bulkheads are welded on at the factory, so they must be on the scale order. Check local weights and measures rules to confirm a portable installation qualifies for commercial use.

What does a permanent installation involve?

The concrete piers and approaches are poured first. The sub-frame is then located and bolted to the piers, the backbone pipes are connected and the scale is calibrated. A portable installation follows the same steps, with fill ramps in place of concrete approaches.
