TS255 Indicator - ABS Enclosure

Model: TS255

A full keypad, so operators type instead of scroll

In dry indoor rooms, at a shipping desk or kitting station, operators tag each weighment with a lot, container or operator number. Piece counting and accumulation to 99,999 weighments are standard, turning the platform into a counting scale and replacing the hand-written tally. A PC or tape printer plugs into a DB9 at the back without opening the case. A field-installed battery pack makes it portable.

The 21 keys sit on the TS250 analog platform: eight 350 ohm or sixteen 1000 ohm load cells and a 1.0 in. backlit LCD. The black ABS enclosure is rated NEMA 1 for dry indoor use. COM1 and COM2 are standard as RS232, RS422 or RS485, with 20 mA passive on COM2. Ethernet TCP, 4-20 mA and PLC interfaces are field-installed options.

Features & benefits

21-key front panel with 0-9, decimal and ENTER

Tare weights and numeric IDs are keyed in one pass instead of scrolled digit by digit.

ID entry key

Tags a weighment with a lot, container or operator number at the scale.

MENU key and arrow-key navigation

Reaches configuration sub-menus directly rather than cycling a single scroll key.

External DB9 on the ABS enclosure

A PC or tape printer plugs into COM2 at the back without opening the case.

Piece counting with 1 to 100 piece sampling

Turns a platform into a counting scale using an Add 1 to Add 100 sample prompt.

Accumulation to 99,999 weighments

Totals gross and net in independent registers, replacing a hand-written tally.

Peak hold with time and date stamp

Captures the highest load for stress-test records required by ISO documentation.

Custom ticket and custom output via PC25X

Prints the fields a customer specifies, in the positions they specify, from one utility.

What's included

The technical picture

The TS255 puts a 21-key front panel on the TS250 analog platform. Ten digit keys, a decimal, ENTER, MENU and two arrows join the six TS250 keys. An operator keys a tare weight or a numeric ID straight in, instead of incrementing one digit at a time. MENU opens the configuration sub-menus.

The black ABS enclosure is rated NEMA 1 for dry indoor use. The material resists heat, impact and chemicals. COM1 and COM2 are standard as RS232, RS422 or RS485, with 20 mA passive on COM2. The ABS build terminates COM2 in an external DB9 on the back panel. The analog section reads up to eight 350 ohm or sixteen 1000 ohm load cells.

Piece counting, accumulation to 99,999 weighments and peak hold are standard. Keypad navigation shortens the path to each. Peak hold and counting are not legal for trade. Commercial weighing is approved to 10,000 divisions.

  • Bluetooth® serial adapter

Uses Port 1 or Port 2 RS232. Range 100 m (328 ft). Acts as server to a printer, client to a PC. Item number, availability and pricing are confirmed at quotation.

  • Bluetooth Class I accessoryIndicator side

    29516

Powered by the indicator and supplied with cable 29402. Runs over COM1 or COM2 as RS232, with a range of 100 m (328 ft). A link needs the far end as well: 29515 for the PC or printer side, AC adapter 29639 where its USB power cable does not suit, and cable 24331Q to reach a printer. The indicator is the server when it connects to a printer and the client when it connects to a PC.

Questions

Specifier & operator FAQ

What does the TS255 add over the TS250?

The front panel. The TS250 has six keys; the TS255 has 21, adding 0-9, a decimal point, ENTER, MENU, a right arrow and an ID key that also scrolls left. That allows keyed manual tare entry, keyed numeric IDs and direct menu navigation. The analog section, display, enclosures, approvals, comms and options are the same on both.

Is the TS255 legal for trade?

NTEP Certificate of Conformance 15-099 covers the series for commercial use up to 10,000 divisions against NIST Handbook 44. Measurement Canada approval AM-6002 is a separate approval with its own number. Peak hold and piece-counting modes are not legal for trade, and the front-panel overlay states this.

Which interfaces are standard and which are priced options?

Standard: COM1 and COM2 as RS232, RS422 or RS485, with 20 mA passive on COM2, plus remote switch inputs. Priced field-installed options: 4-20 mA module 28685, Ethernet TCP accessory 33555 for ABS, and PLC interfaces PROFIBUS-DP 29576, DeviceNet 29578, Ethernet/IP 29884, ControlNet 31979 and Modbus TCP 34032.

Does 34662 include batteries or a battery pack?

No. 34662 is the AC-power ABS indicator. Battery accessory 29421 is a field-installed five-cell pack, and 34666 is the factory AC/battery ABS build. Cells are never included. Rated run time is 55 hours with one 350 ohm load cell, the backlight off and both serial ports off, or 16 hours with four cells and the backlight on.

How is a manual tare entered?

From gross weighing mode, key the tare value on the 0-9 keys and press ENTER. The indicator switches to net mode and the NET caret appears above the display legend. Press GROSS/NET to toggle back. The monorail setting also accepts manual tares smaller than one division, down to more than 50 percent of the division size.
