218T Remote Display with Integrated Traffic Light
Weight and the signal, on one sight line
The driver reads stop and go by shape as well as color. Stop is a 5 in. red X and go is a 5 in. green dot, in the same housing as the weight. One pole position carries both, where the sight line has room for one device. On a TS3300, TS600 or TS-3200, the light runs over the 20 mA display line, so no relay box is wired.
The weight side is the 218's: six 5.0 in. LED digits readable at up to 300 ft, with RS232C, 20 mA or RS485 input and learn mode. The housing is NEMA 3 black powder-coated steel, 33.90 in. tall, with a visor and a rear bracket for a pole or a wall. With other indicators, a relay box or control box 30006 switches the light by dry contact closure.
Features & benefits
5 in. green dot and 5 in. red X LED signal
Stop and go differ in shape as well as color, so the state reads without relying on color.
5.0 in. weight digits, readable at up to 300 ft
The 218's triple-row LED digits, in the same sight line as the signal.
Light control over 20 mA from TS3300, TS600, TS-3200
The indicator sends the light state on the display line, so no relay box is wired.
Dry contact input for other indicators
A relay box or manual control box 30006 switches the light by contact closure.
Learn mode on the weight display
Reads the format of the incoming serial string, so the 218T suits an indicator already in service.
NEMA 3 powder-coated steel housing with visor
Rated against wind-blown rain, sleet, ice and dust at an exposed platform position.
Time and date from the display's own clock
The indicator does not have to send time and date for the display to show them.
What's included

The technical picture
The 218T is the 5.0 in. 218 with a traffic signal built into the housing. A 5 in. green dot means go and a 5 in. red X means stop, both LED. Stop and go differ in shape as well as color. The housing is NEMA 3 black powder-coated steel, 33.90 in. tall, with a visor and a rear bracket for a pole or a wall.
The weight side is the 218's: six 5.0 in. digits readable at up to 300 ft, with LB, KG, GR and NT legends. It takes RS232C, 20 mA or RS485 input, and learn mode reads the format of the incoming string.
The light switches one of two ways. A TS3300, TS600 or TS-3200 sends the light state down the 20 mA display line, so no relay box is wired. With other indicators, or for manual control, a relay box or control box 30006 switches it by dry contact closure.

Options & accessories
Item numbers and availability are confirmed at quotation. Ask your distributor to verify configuration and compatibility before ordering.
Added in the field Order any time
4-conductor 22-gauge cable
Required from the indicator to the display and ordered by the foot. The interface sets the run: 50 ft on RS232C, 1,000 ft on 20 mA, 4,000 ft on RS485.
Manual traffic light control box
For 218T and ACC 778 lights only. Box 11340 is for the 85293 and 86019 lights and must not be used with a 218T or an ACC 778.
Relay boxFor automatic light control
Switches the 218T light by dry contact from an indicator that does not drive it over 20 mA. The 713 Series relay box, 37432, is also listed; the correct relay box for the indicator is confirmed at order.
Relay box interface card
Not required when the 218T light runs over the 20 mA interface. Required to connect a 713 relay box or an ACC 778 light to the indicator. On a TS600 it takes the single expansion slot.
LED traffic light
Adds a signal position away from the display, such as the far end of the platform or the opposite direction of travel. Same 5 in. green dot and red X and the same control box, 30006. AC power is hard wired; mounts on slipfitter 86573 or wall plate 29769.
Temperature module
Field installed in any 218 display. Shows temperature from -50 F to 150 F, in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
Remote display pole mount plate
For the 5.0 in. displays. The plate needs one clamp set to fit a pole: 15808 for 3 in., 15809 for 4 in. or 15810 for 5 in.
8 ft pole kit4.5 in. OD aluminum pole, natural finish
A 4.5 in. OD x 8 ft aluminum pole with base, pole cap and drill-in-place anchor bolts. Pole mount plate 15807 and a clamp set are ordered separately.
Specifier & operator FAQ
How is the traffic light controlled?
Two ways. A TS3300, TS600 or TS-3200 sends the light state over the 20 mA display interface, with no relay box. On a TS3300 this is the ENABLE 1605T setting; indicator menus call the 218T a 1605T. With other indicators, or for manual control, a relay box or control box 30006 switches the light by dry contact closure.
Can the signal be mounted away from the display?
Not on the 218T itself; the signal is part of the housing. For a signal at the far end of the platform or for the opposite direction of travel, add an ACC 778 LED traffic light. It carries the same green dot and red X and uses the same control box, 30006.
How is the 218T different from the 218?
The traffic light. Digits, viewing distance, inputs, learn mode and the NEMA 3 steel housing are those of the 5.0 in. 218. The 218T housing is taller, 33.90 in., to carry the 5 in. green dot and red X.
Why a red X instead of a red circle?
So stop and go differ in shape. A single round light that changes color asks a color-blind driver to tell red from green; a red X and a green dot read by their form.
Which control box goes with the 218T?
Item 30006, the manual traffic light control box, which serves the 218T and the ACC 778. Box 11340 is for the 85293 and 86019 lights and must not be used with a 218T or an ACC 778.
Is the 218T legal for trade?
No NTEP Certificate of Conformance and no Measurement Canada approval number is published for the 218T. NTEP and Measurement Canada are separate approvals, and neither implies the other. Some states require a remote display on a truck scale; check with the local weights and measures office.
